How Does Fear Assist Us?

How does fear assist us? | Maximize Human Capabilities | Occupational Therapy

Channel fear to be productive

Fear can be one of the most productive forms of growth mechanisms that we have.  We do not have to believe the fearful thoughts when they creep in unannounced.  Rather we can see where they come from and what they are trying to tell us.

Fear of change is very common.  Particularly when you have experienced a physical injury and you are embarking on the process of returning to work.  It is actually pretty normal to be thinking "how am I going to manage all of the job tasks when I am still not 100 percent?" "How will my fellow employees treat me?"  "What if I can't keep up?" "I do not want to let them down."

Use fear in a positive way

Do we cling onto these fearful thoughts and let then natter away in our brains?  Or do we make a conscious effort to challenge them and let go of these thoughts so that we can move forward with the changes that are ahead of us?
